Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... sounders setting the bar high for our first kick next year
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver road trips will be sweet. The Pacific Northwest is beautiful.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Haha now Garber says it will be tomorrow. Wow. Garber seems to be the only one that doesn't know its Portland. This is just atrocious. It really is, the handling of expansion. It certainly can't be easy but it should be a way to get press to the MLS and they're messing it up.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Well he really can't announce it even if everyone knows it is coming. What would he do in Portland; "so, ummm, I guess you guys know you are getting a team. Peace out."?
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... doesn't know it's portland? of course he does. he even said how he's heading there for a press conference tomorrow (today).
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... except for the band ... i thought i was watching big ten football.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... I must have missed that. I didn't watch halftime and I was flipping back to basketball occasionally. I mostly just meant the crowd anyway. 22,000 Season tix. 30 plus in attendance and loud. Plus...Drew Carey! haha. Should we make a bigger stadium? lol
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... halftime? the didn't show any halftime festivities, just yapping to lalas and garber. umm, i'm talking during the run of play. they (hte band) were packed in behind one of the goals, and for a good minute or so i was listening to "Sell Out" by Reel Big Fish. although the general public (i.e. non-hardcore supporter) did seem to be well educated in the game and applauded good tackles, etc.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Maybe not, but on a serious note, after Toronto, it will make it even more embarassing if we can't sell out the one we have. I know we've gathered, reportedly, around 6,000 deposits with a year until kickoff, so I'm hopeful. But we're still well behind Seattle: in December of 2007, a month after their team was announced and well before the team even had a name, they had 10,000 deposits. Just a reminder not to rest on our laurels...
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... It would be nice if we advertised. We are a year away now, if you believe the reports that we are getting a team. So far SoB is still known more than the team. Not very good.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Nice. Good song. I listened to most of the game on low volume cuz the gf was sleeping.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... good song ... yes. but when i hear that over the crowd noise and supporter chanting i have flashbacks of KiXX games. the only chant i really heard (and like you the volume was kinda low - 4 month old sleeping and all) was the fans' approval of kasey keller.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Yeah I was digging the band (I thought they were working well with the supporters) until I heard "Sell Out." At least it was an apropos song.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... Amen. They need to saturate the market heavily, just like the Sounders did in Seattle. They've established themselves as the gold standard for expansion.
Re: Road Report from Seattle [R] so after watching last night's sounders/red bulls game - and i'll admit, i was really looking forward to it (and almost didn't see it because my cable was out thanks to that fire engine accident up the street from me) - i am extremely envious of seattle right now. for the most part i think it's envy that their inaugural season in MLS has begun, whereas we are forced to sit through another 12 months +/- until we can bask in the joy and excitement of experiencing this for ourselves. both the quantity and quality of even the "average" fans was top-notch. overall i felt they were educated about the game, knew when to applaud a good play, and didn't hesitate to let the ref know when they didn't agree with his calls. i think most of this can be attributed to the FO and their advertising efforts, informing the fans to give their all for 90 minutes (as most fans were standing the entire game) and to raise their scarves in support of the team. the supporters section presented some incredible pre-game tifo, and i am grateful they didn't resort to the throwing of streamers. the band was meh, but i'll give them the benefit of the doubt after one game, and hope they begin to work in conjunction with the supporters. any concerns about qwest feeling cavernous have been proven fruitless, but we'll see how it feels during a regular season, non-special game. and most importantly, the quality of seattle's play on the field was either brilliant or RBNY was having an off night. montero, nyassi, evans, and keller are pure studs, and they (the sounders, as a team) just might give the league something to watch out for. could they dethrone chicago when it comes to season results for an expansion club? we'll see come november when qwest hosts the 2009 MLS Cup. they've sold more season tickets than our stadium has capacity for, but i fully expect the intimacy down at seaport drive to be much more intimidating than any of the other stadia in MLS. not to rush things, as we have many announcements and details to look forward to over the next year or so, but i cannot wait until we're all still swimming in our post-game glow, reminiscing on the brilliant plays, electric atmosphere, and fact that the philadelphia team is finally here.
Re: And one of the teams playing in 2011 is... mine wasn't. she didn't quite understand why i was cheering for seattle until i reminded her that NY was playing. lol I only heard 2 distinct chants that involved most of the stadium. "ole" and "kasey keller" so i'm not the only one that laughed at NYRB during and because of that song?
Re: Road Report from Seattle [R] The HD was awesome. The masses of people standing and cheering also were. Envy. I really like how you can see the city skyline from inside the stadium.
Re: Road Report from Seattle [R] Agreed. That's why I love when games are on ESPN or ESPN 2. FSC and Gol TV come in handy, but it's nice to have the crystal clear picture for a soccer game.
Re: Road Report from Seattle [R] Awesome. Hopefully comcast picks it up. They have the nfl network in regular and HD, so I'd think they would.
Re: Road Report from Seattle [R] I think they currently have the best ownership in MLS. The advertising they have done for the team, combined with the visibility and marketability of Drew Carey, has done wonders for the early days of their team. An owner as personable and charismatic as him (please don't bring up the price is right ) who is a total sports nut and not just a soccer fan, can really do wonders for a fan base. Just look at the 76ers before, during, and after the Pat Croce era.
Re: Road Report from Seattle [R] I didn't mind the band, but hey played way too long. They should stick to short 30 second burst or so. A good thing was that everything they played was uptempo but some of the songs lasted 5 minutes. That said, I hope we don't have a band.
