Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT I know this is a cultural difference as I went to university in Europe. Questioning your superiors is considered very much an OK thing to do in the US-as long as it does done in a respectful way. Our guys who play in Europe sometimes have trouble adjusting to the European attitude: you just shut up and play and never question, even politely, your role on the team.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Yeah, well thats how we do it in Norway. You are supposed to be humble and not talk about yourself too much. If you have a coach that has a friendly aspect in his coaching skills, then you can be more open to him and talk....
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT I spend part of my time telling my European ( and Asian) grad students and fellows that it is OK to question authority (i.e. me), as long as it is done with respect. Or as Ali G would say respek!
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Here you just need to know a password phrase. For Rongen that would be "Neven still loves you".
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT If you feel nervous about it, I'd suggest having your Father (who you said was your official career adviser earlier) contact USSF. You have a legitimate question, and hopefully you have options. I hope you are looking beyond a single tournament when you make your decision however. Did you have to register with FIFA for any of the matches you played, for either USA or Norway?
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT I think it plays better to have the player call. man to man, no intermediaries is better.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT You should call him and ask if he has plans on calling him in...if not, then go with Norway (even though that pains me to say that). When you become a star we can all complain about how incompetent Rongen is......not like we haven't done that already with Subotic.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Mikkel - welcome aboard from a fellow yank who grew up abroad!! Two topics for you to discuss if you'd be so kind... 1- who do rate better: the Norwegian midfield or US middies in terms of young talent? certainly there is lots of good young midfield talent in both camps Tettey & Skjelbred / Bradley, Edu & Kljestan. I'm interested to hear your thoughts as you've probably faced some from both countries at one point or another. 2- I know you're still young and relatively new to senior level football but have any clubs made any transfer inquiries to either Stabaek or your father about you? What are your feelings about playing football outside of Norway? Is it your goal to eventually play in England? Phew that was a lot of questions Thanks in advance if you answer any of them Mikkel!
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Rongen is one of the best coaches in the US system. That is pretty much the consensus view. The dude knows what he is doing.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Hey Mikkel! Which US players impressed you the most when you trained and played with our U-20's? Thanks!
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT No, no registration yet. But the next game for Norway we have to register, if I am picked out.... I am not thinking short term and I can wait, but whats the point if Rongen doesn't see me in his plans. Thats probably why I should contact him
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Hehe, well that sounds like a good plan. I like your thinking. Thanx for being honest.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Well these guys are a little older then me. Tettey and Skjelbred are some of the biggest talents in Norway. Adu is one american player thats going to make it big. For Norway who I play with we have got are best midfield in Magnus Eikrem who plays for Manchester United. (Down to earth person btw) From the US team, I would say Anthony Wallace really impressed me. They are the same type of players, and I would say just as good...... I have gotten offers, but I am not allowed to talk about it. Sorry.... lol I just signed a pro contract for Stabæk though, because I wanted to wait and see what my options were. I would love to play in a bigger league, if the oppurtunity is there. England would be awesome Hope I answered what you was wondering about.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Break Shea, Anthony Wallace, Ibi who plays for Toronto, Bill Hamid and Bryan Arguez. Great players,a and I think they will make it big
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Regardless, since you have a passport from both nations and you have yet to play an official match for either, you will not be cap-tied to Norway until you are 21. Neven Subotic just went through all this. I'm just saying that there is more to the USSF than Coach Rongen. Good luck!
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT So true, Rongen isn't where it stops. Plus, theres nothing wrong with having an easier path to WC's than Norway. Bradley really values the time of his players in camps and seems to have built a trust. Good luck Mikkel in making a good long living in football. I hope you choose to don the Red White and Blue, but even if you choose Norway, you'll be remembered fondly. (Unlike that Subotic character).
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT To be fair, in this rare case choosing red white and blue can mean two entirely different NTs
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Hey Mikkel, i have a couple questions 1. If things somehow dont work out in europe would you consider signing with MLS at some point in the future 2. What is your favorite club in the world, a team that you would dream to play for?
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Mikkel, do the right thing and don the EVER CHANGING WHITE MONSTROSITY that is the US national team jersey please.
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT Ok, enough of all this nonsense . We are all assuming Mikkel is good enough for both the US and Norwegian national teams - and I am happy to make that assumption as well. In that case, I hope you chose the country you have lived and grown up in: NORWAY!
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT MLS is a very interesting for me, if things doesnt work out here in Europe. I love the US, and miss the country every time I leave it. I would say Barcelona, love their style of playing
Re: Mikkel Diskerud can choose US or Norway NT And that's why there has never been a Norwegian rap star.
