Ok yea, and no point intended, i have written many threads explaining that i may say Atletico Miami but I am also reffering to Miami Athletics, in no way was I ever trying to single out the name in english, I, like you, was born in the USA, I just might have been born in a different culture (Miami) where spanish thrives everywhere, even the Americans that live here know somewhat of spanish enough to understand it a little. i know i advertise the name in spanish but I do it for the sole reason of the people here who wouldn't give any time for MLS. if they were to hear that the name of the team was the Miami Bobcats (example) how would you refer to that name in spanish, driving the people here even farther away from the MLS. My only purpose is to similate the names of the league's and teams of their country back home, if they were to hear Atletico Miami, maybe they will relate more to the team since it is in spanish therefore (they) giving it interest, plus with the style of Barcelona in our team and success, we may have a chance to get Miami and its people (all) interest in this league!!

All my unlce's were born in Colombia, and no lie when i tell them about the MLS (2 years ago) they would grunt and call MLS nothing but kiddy league, and now that i tell them that barcelona wants a team here they are excited about it. Plus Seattle signed a colombian forward ,that is young and that i am sure will make an impact on this league, and is also from Barranquilla (where my family is from). I know Angel is in the red BUlls but, Im sorry, he is old news and from bogota not my territory, and Montero plays in the National team for Colombia.

Can you get off the "Freddy Montero" penis please?! LOL! BTW Angel is from Medellin and played for
"ese equipito de NacioMal" Which btw has the word 'Atletico' in it and I still wouldn't mind it for a Miami team.

Lucho, I apologize. I interpreted that you wanted the team to be called solely Atletico Miami... Atletico Miami/Miami Athletics works great. My fear was coming off as discriminatory, not demonstrating Spanish roots.

Angel from Bogotá.... Only a costeño would come up with that :D For all his man-crush on Montero, you'd think he was Junior's. But no!! the kid got out right under their noses! It was Cali who got him and collected the fruits out of him.

Ok, back on topic, I'm still in the camp of those who say Barça will NEVER allow a name which resembles one of their rivals (even if it's close to that of their B team) I just don't see it happening.

Cid i guess the misunderstanding occured that since the name Atletico Miami was being said instead of Miami Athletics, that neither should be the team name. I am totally with you now, that if it we do end up with that name than Officially will be known as Miami Athletics (around the league, jersey, emblem, MLS, ectbut promotion wise (locally especially) It will be widely known as Atletico Miami down here.

Hey, I would love that. My only worry was alienating people by making it seem like this is "a hispanic thing".

In fact, a name like that works pretty nicely when it comes to not alienating anyone.

Yea, I agree with everything everyone is saying. The name Miami Athletics sounds kind of nice too.

As of the nacioMAL, we call them nacioANAL in Uruguay too

Yea, that was embarrasing, consdering the history of Penarol.

This team just cant compete internationally. There's rumors that they were partying all night 2 days before El Clasico, in which the former the coach quit after.

The new coach has them working really hard, and they have been training without even going home for 5 days. Hopefully it pays off. I have faith that we can turn it around. We lost to Sao Paulo like 6 years ago 6-0, and beat them 4-0 in Uruguay. We lost 3-0 to Liga de Quito a few years ago, and beat them 4-1 after.

And a major overhaul is coming too.

    Now back on topic

A reasonable worry & a workable solution, IMvhO. Many of the folks in Miami-Dade County, especially those in the City of Miami that are of hispanic descent, seem to forget that "Miami" is more that just that city or County. For better or worse "Miami" is also Broward County, much of The Keys, and Palm Beach County, too. These areas are much less hispanic than Miami-Dade (although Broward, also a "minority" County, is rapidly catching up) and a straight out appeal to just hispanics will probably have less attraction. If we can make this team appeal to as many people as possible it will have a far greater chance of success and that success is something I believe we all want.

I do not think that success can come from imitating something from whereever someone came from. It depends on the folks at MiamiMLS - not Barca-Miami or Miami FCB - creating some thing that has an appeal to all of us. That appeal will have a pronounced hispanic flavor & rhythm, no doubt, but it must have more than that, too. That is a tall order for Claure & Company to meet and, in all honesty, I don't know if they can. They seem to want a team of the Americas; I want a team for Miami. There is a huge difference. It is going to be interesting to see how they go about building & marketing this team over the next year, I'm assuming that MiamiMLS will happen, to find out who it is aimed at - hispanic only, or everyone. I only hope that they are inclusive....:)

BTW, where will the SSS be built? The old OB site? Elsewhere in the City of Miami? By the tennis center on Key Biscayne? That, too, is going to be something that must be accomplished eventually. Hopefully it will join the Marlin's Stadium project and get established there ASAP. Claure & his imported management team have a lot of stuff to do once MiamiMLS is a reality. I wish them the best.

Why do people keep talking about FCB when its Claure officially and not FCB that will be involved in this team? From what Ive read on here and he said the club would have ITS own NAME,COLORS,Crest etc.

    CB Miami- Club Barracuda Miami...lol
I prefer Miami SC or even Miami FC if Miami FC will be merged with this team.
AC Miami as the official name would be okay and have AC Miami on the kits. They could sell seperate merchandise with Athletic Club Miami in both English & Spanish to appease both groups of people.:) Or just sell items with AC Miami and leave it to the people as to whether they say it in English or Spanish.

But that's not true. It's been acknowledged a few times now that the Nike/Adidas issue is real. Also, Barca said many times the reason they are doing this is to promote their brand.

How do you promote your brand with a different name and different colors.

Sure, Claure is running this thing, but he is not going to do anything Barca objects to.

Can you imagine to PR nightmare if Miami gets a team and before they even start playing Barca says - screw this - we're out of here?

So Claure will make the decisions, but only with Barca's approval.

Good questions, it will be interesting to see how this turns out.
I for one will not buy anything that Says Barcelona on it. So I hope they atleast dont put their name on it. I would be okay with Football Club Miami, the use of the shield and even the colors, but would prefer AC Miami and Teal & Orange.

AC Miami sounds good but to appeal to everyone, especially to those who are not familiar with the FC's and AC's, wouldn't want it for the team name. It would have to be Football Club Miami and or Atheltic Club Miami. It needs an actual name and FC and AC is just a simple prefix and/or suffix. In fact when using Miami Athletic, and dropping the 'club' all toghether it sounds more appealing (in my opinion). It needs a real name. I'm sticking with Union. I just can't see the team being referred to my a couple letters. Miami isn't Milan, it isn't Barcalona. We are not in Europe. A strong name will bring us appart from all the rest. FC Dallas, FC Toronto and FC Miami?

As for colors. Im sick of teal all together! But i guess thats another discussion board!

Eh, I like both Atletico/Athletics and United/Union. Slightly biased towards Union/United, because of the Greater Miami area. It's an inclusive way to say this club represents Miami, and the Greater Miami area, those autonomous parts that are still considered just as "Miami" as Miami herself.

    LOL.

I was just pointing out that most theorists in Philly-land seem to think Union is going to win, thus making it basically impossible for Miami to use.

    Sorry!

    Its cool!

But in other posts, I've read a lot of people are goin for write-ins instead of choosing Union. Well I guess we'll find out next month what Philly decides.

yeah i think it might, especially on expansion teams on back to back years! But it might all depend if the name will only be Union. Cause if you notice a lotof teams still use the FC in it.
