Man, you guys gotta check these out when you get a chance. Some of these videos are very sophisticated. Dominic Scicluna is definitely player/coach/showman of the Waza. http://www.arenaleague.com/insurance/291581.html There's more to be added including the first 10 minutes of their first game in Cincinnati. It's not on our site yet, but you can find in on You Tube pretty easily if you search for Waza TV.
I can't believe I watched 4 minutes of that. What is a Waza Flo Pro? Is that a toilet brand? Was the "announcer" calling the game while holding his own camcorder? Kind of like the Survivorman of rec indoor soccer, eh?
It's kind of grown on me as a name like Metropolitans or Knickerbockers. I always refer to them as Detroit Waza like Mets or Knicks.
If the team can land a sponsorship deal form Howard Johnson's, it could become Ho Jo's Waza Flo Pros!
It is. This video was shot at the Ignition training facility, High Velocity Sports in Canton, MI. Before the season members of Waza and the Ignition were training together there as well and they'll be doing doubleheaders at Compuware this season.
Those 3 lovely brothers can make tons of videos of them playing with their balls...it won't change the fact that the Waza whatever the hect sucks. Go Outlaws.
They'd following other Detroit teams of days gone by... isn't that how the Neon/Safari got their names? Not quite as prestigious as Dodge or GM... but then again, kind of fitting since they're both in the toilet now...
I meant that the Neon/Safari got their names according to who was sponsoring them... and that Dodge and GM are currently in the toilet as companies... the teams themselves were long ago flushed
Waza is one of the big youth clubs in the Metro Detroit area, started by the Sciclunas. The PASL team is an extension of the youth club. I believe most of the players are also coaches.
If these guys don't make it as a regular member of the PASL, they may have a future as a traveling show team similar to the Harlem Globetrotters. Are any of them funny? Do they have memorable nicknames like Curly or Meadowlark? It also occurs to me that the Massachusetts Twisters are currently facing substantial obstacles to success in the NISL. Perhaps they could serve as Waza's traveling full-time opponents, a la the Washington Generals. If they're going to be full-time doormats anyway (as it appears so far), let's spare them from low morale and frustration and make their role clear from the beginning. Maybe next year? Just trying to think outside the box here .
Is this for real? I suppose it is still early days for that league but I don't think you can seriously call that pro level. Maybe worth comparing and contrasting with a youtube clip of what indoor looked like when top Scottish pro teams used to play a tournament called the Tennent's Sixes, which was inspired by the first MISL:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftM0aHzcTgw
Great. This made me laugh out loud, which in turn, made me have to explain to a co-worker why I'm on an indoor soccer message board.
i'm sure they are. it's still an unusual name. 'detroit waza flo pro' is, i'm sorry, a really, really dumb moniker.
Detroit Waza "No Cash" Flo I really hope it works out for PASL, but this sport is simply potent when it comes to wiping out bank balances.
im sorry.. but that team they were playing was a glorified rec team... did you see when one of their players got beat, he barely turned around.. didnt bother to chase the player down... thats sunday nite beer league competition!! i wouldnt pay to see that
I'm sure that's great and all, but does break-dancing win soccer games? Any videos of the games up in MTL, or have I just not found them yet?
