Fair enough. Kids like all sorts of stupid things. I agree with the first part, but if you're turned around trying to get the rest of the crowd to sing I hardly consider that stupid. Not something I care to do, but definitely not stupid.
Think about what the wave is....you stand up, and then you sit down. in the process you make a whoop sound. Now fine, the kid argument is one thing, but some people are seriously trying to compare standing up and sitting down with chants about players that raise the morale on the field. If you talk to some of the players the fort not only loosens them up while they are playing, it also gets them excited when they are having a down day, and lifts their spirits when they just sucked at life. Does the wave accomplish anything besides making that kid in the third row with obesisty think he did his excercise for the week? IDC if someone in the morgue starts the wave, but Jesus, Mary, and Dinosaurs help me if the fort continues it.
Wow - 4 pages debating the merits of the wave and associated banter.... I dislike the wave. I find it distracting. The rest of the stadium wants to do it - fine, knock yourselves out. Chances are, when it reaches the Fort - it's done. The Fort, collectively, tends not to participate - never have and probably never will. Just as it is the right of those to start it, it is within the citizens of the Fort's right not to join in. The Fort - Gillette Stadium's breakwater.
That's fine and dandy. However I think some people, including myself, have a problem of being flipped off and yelled at because we are doing the wave.
The Mexican wave is fun I know this cos my high school did a world record attempt at doing the Mexican wave for about 6 hours straight..got kinda tiring all that getting up and down. Yay Mexican wave
I think the Wave is insulting to the players on the field. It means that all the work they are putting in out there is not being fully appreciated by the fans who'd obviously rather engage in fatuous activity. I agree that there is enough stoppage time in the other yahoo American sports to warrant it but Soccer is a different animal. It doesn't stop much and people who have a real appreciation for the game want to see every second. My 11 year old son was getting highly annoyed with both the wave and the Beckham shirts. I'm proud of him for that. Everytime it came around he a lost a few seconds of the game. It's good that a thing like a corner kick caused enough interest to extinguish the wave. Funny how the wave never happens at games where the casual fans stay away. There is also less leaving of seats at those games because real fans want to see all the soccer over getting a pretzel. I bet to fans in other countries that are more educated on the sport, this type of activity looks real stupid. It reinforces the sterotype that Americans are dumb. I buy into this premise so therefore the wave is an embarrassment to me.
hey, everybody; VH1's 'I Love the 80's' just called and they want their wave back. are you people that bored where you start a thread about a friggen wave? get a life. (unless you are on here to entertain your 9 and 6 yr old)
Personally I'm here because I'm 6 years old. Either that, or it's too early to head down to the stadium. OK, probably the latter.
I Love the 80s just called again and they want their lame joke back as well. Honestly I could care less about the wave.. If people wanna do it and it puts buts in seats then fine. If not fine.. They should be standing anyway.
Yeah, the wave is cheesy but it's nothing to get all bent out of shape about. Maybe we should have done the wave last night to show our utter disgust with the Rev's performance.
you COULDN'T care less about the wave. if you could care less, you would. sorry, i just hate that everyone gets this wrong and about the wave, i personally think it's stupid, just like i think the "supa revs" chant and wipeout in the middle of a game of are stupid and thus choose not to participate in all three
To Guys New Addition im Jun Bug: Hey Gregory Richardson (AKA Jackie Chan) is a Guyanese from Guyana South America. Not sure why the they keep mensting he is from trinidad, He has a great 2 game for Joe Public Club against New England Rev scoring 4 goals. He kill the defense with skill and speed none of the Rev could not handle him. MLS need to go to the Guyana and the Caribbean and fine players because we have alot more player that can do the same and make the MLS defense look the same. But they just need that chance to play with a bigger team and they all play for the love and will give your team 120% on the field. Thanks
The wave isn't as bad as people make it out to be - Not doing it just alienates the Fort from the rest of the crowd and makes us look like elitists. We always yell for the crowd to "Stand up!" but we can't even humble ourselves for a wave during occassional big games? Bottom line: The end result of the wave is the rest of the crowd gets pumped up to a near-Fort like level, which is good for the atmosphere and good for the players.
I don't give a rat's ass about the wave, one way or another. The only that gets my hackles up is when people do it late in a back-and-forth or tied game, because that when everyone should be paying attention to the soccer.
Are we really bickering over the wave? Of all the things to bicker about...the wave? Seriously. The wave. Hey look at this hot Vice Presidential Candidate...
