Alright I'm going to be "that guy" and ask the question: what's with the hatred of the wave? Its origins are in Latin American soccer I believe and it gets the non-Fort folks involved in something, so I guess I don't understand the hate. Personally I'm indifferent to it one way or the other, but just wondering why "the wave stops here"?

I know in Europe its called the Mexican wave. Beyond that I don't know much about it.

Personally I find it mildly annoying at other professional sporting events and downright stupid at a soccer match. In the NFL when the ref is picking his nose...er, reviewing a play or there's a TV timeout or something it's fine because it gives the fans something to do but in a sport where the ball is in constant motion and something could happen at any moment to be doing the wave and not, ya know, WATCHING THE DAMN GAME is just silly. I'm only speaking for myself though.

BTW FH6, good to see you again last night.

Because you know all the people standing in the fort are giving there 100% attention to the match....

I've been to a match where this "The wave stops here" chant comes out. I was so utterly confused! "We want to morgue to be more active" "We need chants that can get the morgue going" blah blah blah morgue sucks blah blah blah.... then the morgue does something like the wave and we stop it! Like I said, so utterly confused....

I cant wait for the day that the morgue starts to sing "from the halls of foxborro stadium" and the Fort starts "The chants stop here! The chants stop here!"

Well the Fort always wants the morgue to participate. However, when they try something, like the wave, it's considered "anti-soccer" (exact quote from some people in the Fort [not from last night but previous games]). Another thing is that when some people try to suggest something for the Fort to get the morgue more involved it's shot down. Why I don't know.

I'm not calling you out Seamus, it's more of discussion and issue that hasn't been resolved. I'd love to see it resolved. It's as simple as slowing down the chants and compromising with the Morgue (waves, more "basic" chants).

My only comment on this is that I hate the wave at any Boston sporting event. It's so played out, its like the Macarena or Who Let the Dogs Out. If we could figure out something similar to it in simplicity, but original, you would have me sold.

Not that my opinion is a big deal, just sayin.

Personally I hate the wave, so I now just ignore it. I'd rather watch the game than be watching and waiting for the fans next to me to stand up.

I realize you are making a personal statement, but...

Actually you'd rather turn 180 degrees and face the Fort to get a chant going and then turn back to beat a drum and watch the game, than to glance over 90 degrees and wave you arms up for second or two and then continue to watch the game.

I just don't buy the fact that the wave distracts you from the game more then standing, cheering, throwing streamers, dancing to Wipeout, ordering another beer, dealing with a security issues, ect.

People in the Fort simply hate the wave, let's not try to hide that cut-and-dry fact by saying it distracts us from the match. I personally think its anti-productive to one of our missions as supporters which is (and please correct me if I am wrong): To support the New England Revolution and to create a fun, loud, and overall exciting atmosphere at every Revolution home match.

I agree with both of you guys yes the wave sucks and is very out dated thus its lame. how ever i also agree that it should be endorsed because it does create a sense of stadium unity. so does that "ole ole ole" song that was drowned out in the fort during the last match also lame... yes it is do i like it? no, unless its the ole ole ole usa chant, but its what people know!

so we can either sit here a debate the waves usefulness to the mission of the MR and RA and the fort as a whole or maybe we can figure out away to use it to spread our message of undying support and love to the seats of section 2! i dunno i'm new to this...

ps monty can we get that wipe out one going tomorrow i love that?

The wave started in the US or Canada if I remember correctly and then swept across the rest of the world and is known as the Mexican wave because it was done at World Cup 86 in Mexico where it got global exposure.

Not to my nine year old and six year old, and frankly If they are happy, I am happy.

What is stupid is sitting in the fort which i do for most games, and watching revs supporters having ten minute conversations with their back to the match.....Or someone singing a song for 5 minutes with their back to the match as well

The other day I was thinking to myself, "It has been a while since there was a 'I hate the Fort' thread on Bigsoccer."

*grabs a bag of popcorn and enjoys the drama*

I don't have a problem with criticism; I just know exactly what this thread is going to turn into.

I also wasn't at the game on Saturday; nor do I get hot and bothered over the wave.

I don't really care for the wave, but chanting against it is stupid. Saying it is distracting is wrong because everyone turns to the other sections to chant against it. Why?

It just makes us look like a-holes to everyone else in the stadium. The unfortunate fact of the matter is the majority of other fans in the stadium like the wave. Flipping other fans off and chanting and ruining the wave just makes the fort look bad.

Or how bout the constant chants that are very elitist because Beckham was there. Shouldn't we encourage fans to join, not driving them away. I swear sometimes I think some people think its a club where no outsiders are allowed.

In the interest of keeping the peace, it seems like everyone is ok with just ignoring the wave and not chanting against it. Consensus?

EDIT: And always good to see the famous Seamus at games :D

Call me crazy but if we averaged 40,000 a game, I would watch from home. And I don't think the Revs would have an issue with 39,999.

Good to see the normal anti-Riders, anti-Fort people joining in.

Quinn, if you want to say that starting a chant to support the team is the same as looking to the side for 3 seconds and waiting so I can stand up and say "Wheee" ... good on you.

Again, apparently the personally I don’t care for the wave upsets people. I chose to ignore it this time. If people want to do it, I’m not stopping you.

If people feel that doing the wave somehow helps the team … well then continue doing it.

How has my opinion changed? I still stand by what I said. If you wear a Beckham jersey in the Fort when the Galaxy playing expect to be taunted.

How's the popcorn because you just started some drama.

    Another awesome thread.

    who cares.
    seriously?

shouldn't you want the crowd to get into it? is it our fault that that you wave haters in the fort aren't creative enough to parlay that energy in the mourge into something else?

sorry that the mass of 12 yr old beckham loving kids aren't up on the "form the halls of..." or "glory glory"

yes the wave is kind of lame, but so what. I don't do the wave at red sox games, bit I don't tell the kid next to me it's lame.

stop calling them the morgue and maybe they'll stop calling you elitist:rolleyes:
