This is really getting insane. Look, 2010 is NOT going to happen, unless the team plays in a bb stadium or red bull park. Both bad ideas. There will be no new soccer stadium in NYC by 2010.

And while it is true that the shea stadium area and downtown brooklyn are totally different, there will be community opposition which will hold construction up. Not to the extent that the Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn have done it. But this is going to take some time.

Napoli, in many ways, these are less corrupt times than the 1930s. Giant projects don't happen in NYC based on one person's say so. It's a democratic system designed to give power to local communities.

I don't even understand why some of you are still discussing 2010 as an option. It's done. '09 Seattle and '10 Philadelphia. The next clubs announced will be for 2011.

I dont think 2010 is an option - 2011 is for sure! Again, From what I UNDERSTAND - they can start laying the framework while Shea is being torn down - from the RUMORS i hear ;)

Wow - you know a lot about the possible Stadium my man - hmmmmm

But you are right - the mystery is better and that is hte way the League wants it! They have said in the past they are quietly making progress. The NY2 has been so hush hush - that a lot of people we talked to - didnt know anything about it until we brought it up!

Who knows man - all I know is the Derby will be amazing! They have to get this done for no other reason than the DERBY! A NY Derby might get people around the world tuning into the MLS - lets face it!

Yes I did throw that out there as speculation. Very similar to this thread. Life isn't an absolute it changes day to day. I don't know any of these things for certainty, there are just hunches on my part which I share here. I've learned over time that people dont like listening to hunches and its always better either left unsaid or imply in the most certain terms that you are just stating a hunch and nothing more.

Yes I have speculated some conspiracies but this is the first time that anyone has spoken about the permit issues. See that's a realistic explanation. Unless you are in the know, the stadium seems held up for unrealistic reasons. Wouldn't you agree Tony?

Well like I said before I'm willing and able to help. I don't know if you need it but still feel free to ask for any of the suggestions or ideas that I pm'ed you.

About a year ago, I was told that the stadium would go up in the parking lot of Shea stadium, not actually where Shea sits now. So if the curse is what you are worried about, rest assured that its not going to be even close.

Yes this is the same rumor I heard. :D

Again I want to restate that this thread is PURELY SPECULATIVE. It's not meant to be the end all of stadiums in nyc or anything else. I just thought that it would be nice to envision what this would be like on the QUICKEST TERMS possible nothing more.

I dont want anyone to believe that this is fact, it's not, its speculation.

When you can refer to the team that plays in the Meadowlands as some combination of "New York" and "Red Bulls", I'll be happy to call this team New York 2.

Until then I'll just have fun.

But theoretically, lets look at a possible time line.

    1. Baseball season ends in Oct.
    2. Demolition of Shea begins in NOV 2008, this is already etched in stone. This is happening
    3. Citi field will take 18 months to build. Mar 2007-Sept 2008. This is for a 45k seat decked out luxury stadium.
    4. A 30k seat stadium takes about 12-15 months to build.
    5. If construction started in Nov 2008 it would end in Nov 2009 - Feb 2010.
    6. Based on these dates I really don't see how starting 2010 is not possible?
    7. As far as community opposition? Here in Corona/Jackson Heights, there is NONE. Everyone wants this to happen. No one would oppose this. If anything people have been wondering why it hasnt happened sooner!

But you still haven't told me why you call it Paper FC? I was curious. You know why I call RBNY, RBNJ. I'm not mad at all. I thought that it was funny and asked.

BTW I don't call you guys NJ in your forums. I only say NJ over here. I've been trying to be respectful of that for over a year now. But in these forums I call you guys NJ.

So here you can call us NYC, not PAPER FC or NYC 2. Just plain ole NYC.

Not mad at all just feel that if you asked for respect and I have been giving it to you in your forums for quite some time now. I think that asking for it in return isnt all that much.

After the USA v Argentina game, I met a few ESC's and things toned down a bit. Not really looking or care to trade posts with anyone right now.

But I will save it for game day thats for sure. Besides we have a common enemy right now (NJSEA). Wouldn't you agree!?!?

Thanks. Even though we disagree furiously on some things, its nice to know me fellow futbol fans in this area, regardless of affilaiation, are willing to bind together over things like this. No matter what disagreements we may have going forward i will always remeber those that were in my corner during trying times.

Nit to shit on your parade..but coming from someone that has been hearing the "stadium any day" talk for over 10 years..your best hope timeline seems to always be like years off. Hell i remember 2001 when Metro said we'd have a new stadium before Chicago.

I think Metrogo has the most realistic timeline.

And if theoretically it is possible in 2010, I don't realize why it can't be realisitically possible in 2011, if Wilpon will present the soccer plan this summer ?

Color me the optimist! I know for a fact that I control NONE of these events. The only thing that I can do is talk about it and HOPE. Nothing more. But its always fun to try and guess and figure it out. :D

What is the real time to build a 30.000 soccer stadium ? I think that it isn't more than 18/24 months .

Or it could take as long as RBP which I pray to God it won't.

Also, the part of queens around willets point and shea stadium sits on really bad ground. It's literally garbage and sand beneath the surface. It complicates building there.

I thought the same thing but after seeing the quickness with which CitiField's foundation went up I don't know about that anymore.

Initially when they started construction in Mar of 2007, I thought that for sure they would take FOREVER on the foundation. But by summer time they were already starting the steel superstructure. It was fast. That's one of the things that has me scratching my head about RBP's progress. They started driving wooden piles into the ground in Jan, now almost August they still haven't even begun the steel superstructure. Very puzzling indeed.
