Woo! 25! (of course, this includes memorial day... and a day with no students... and the seniors will stop coming in a couple weeks). But still... I have to be here. Of course, we didn't start until the Tuesday after labor day.
I'm not even counting the days I have left for teaching b/c I'm slammed w/ editing my (accepted) dissertation. Man oh MAN my bibliography's a mess! But I just found out today that my adviser has accepted my thesis pending stylistic changes. The only changes to the body involve an elimination of a somewhat controversial, unsubstantiated assertion that a major poet from back in the day was gay. The gay was sooooo gay, but for the purposes of passing and filing, the brother wasn't gay. Even though he was.
28 days. 28 long days. This does not include Memorial Day, nor the days when I have to be in attendance but the students don't. It's 28 actual teaching days.
Wow. You're even worse off than me... or better if you like it! I can't forget that possibility. I'm actually really looking forward to next year.
ITS OVER! Its finally over! I am now a college graduate. I initially just wanted to get it over with because I knew the graduation was gonna be boring, but that feeling when they gave me my diploma and I saw my name on it was just awesome. Sure I got a diploma 4 years ago in high school but this just feels different.
Done! I turned in my grades last night! Woo hoo! Now I'm off to Louisville to be a reader for AP exams. I was supposed to defend my thesis on the 13th, but I have to wait until September for "bureaucratic reasons". My school won't allow a professor to be there via conference call!!! Which is super common, apparently. I met a prof last week who had two committee members present via conference call. Bastards.
All of my senior grades were put in on Monday. It's a silly way that they do this. Why bother showing up when their grades are in for good? They don't. I'm pretty much done with seniors now. As for the juniors... My grades will be in on Friday, so they'll stop coming after that. I'm not officially done until the 13th though. We'll be updating our curriculum! Woo! Of course, I'll be starting in the fall after labor day.
Done teaching now. Seniors have graduated. Juniors have stopped coming. Two days of required attendance for teachers remain! Woo!
I just finished yesterday, and it couldn't have come soon enough. The last quarter of the school year has been insane at my school. Our dept chair has always been a piece of work, but with the new Principal being an old pal of hers, she's gone off the deep end in the last few months. She's been ripping people personally, screwing with schedules (she's given herself 2 AP, 3 Honors 12 and one Honors Art, while other folks in the dept have as many as 5 preps that are all collab/lower level) and treating the staff like she would treat a student. We're losing 5 English teachers this year (none to retirement- 3 transferred within the county, 1 is leaving the county and 1 is leaving the profession), and we're one of the three or four "retirement schools" in the county. It should make for an...interesting 2008/09 school year.
