Just wanted everyone to know that awesome news regarding ESPN coverage of Euro came out yesterday. Coldplay is going to be providing all the music from their new album for the tv coverage.

    http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/connecticut/ny-bc-ct--espn-coldplay0507may07,0,2728509.story

BRISTOL, Conn. - Coldplay and ESPN have signed a marketing deal that will have the rock band promoting soccer and the sports network promoting the band's new album.

Coldplay's music will be featured in promotions for ESPN's coverage next month of the European Championship soccer tournament, the sports network announced Wednesday.

ESPN agreed to incorporate music from Coldplay's new release, "Viva La Vida," into game and studio production. The quadrennial tournament is scheduled for June 7-29 in Austria and Switzerland. The CD is due out June 12.

I went to a Coldplay concert one time. Coldplay did not. Luckily, they weren't the headliner and I wasn't there to see them anyway. I was there to see Live, who were awesome.

Can anyone provide a link to the ESPN schedule where the games are listed (and therefore where they're getting this schedule)? I'm looking here - http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide - and the schedule is blank that far ahead.

    SA,
I wasnt attempting to put down ot bash your listing. My post was to put a fine touch on your listing as in to show which channels the games were going to be on. I dont know if ESPN Classic is showing any games live, as an example, but I know ESPN will be doing the games live in HD. ESPN really does treat soccer as a red-headed step-child and I would caution everyone who want to watch or record the games to check their local listing up to 12 hours before "expected" broadcast. And sometimes your local guide is still not correct. Should get into how I hate ESPN at this point? (LOL). Maybe another day.

PS> Anyone know the email address to ESPN programming director John Skipper? Darn if I can find his email.

Theres a press release with the LIVE TV schedule posted at the ESPN MediaZone Website: http://www.espnmediazone.com (Click on news releases, than click on "ESPN's Euro Championship 2008 Schedule")

All 31 matches LIVE on the ESPN Family: 2 on ABC, 7 on ESPN, 17 on ESPN2 and 5 on ESPN Classic.

As socceraction posted, ESPN Classic is televising the first two games (Switzerland vs Czech Republic and Portugal vs Turkey) LIVE on June 7 with coverage starting at 11:50 am ET. (Note: The "24 hr schedule" for June on the ESPN MediaZone website has coverage starting at 11:30 am ET thus we get an extra 20 mins of pregame.)

The other three LIVE ESPN Classic games will be Matchday #3 games where the two games in each group are being played at the same time. They are: June 15-Turkey vs Czech Republic, June 16-Poland vs Croatia and June 17-Netherlands vs Romania.

As for the other Matchday #3 telecasts: June 15-Switzerland-Portugal on ESPN2, June 16-Austria-Germany on ESPN, June 17- France-Italy on ESPN. June 18-Greece-Spain on ESPN and Russia-Sweden on ESPN2.

All games will be available in high definiation on ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD and ABC HD.

I don't see how ALL games can be in HD if some are on ESPN Classic. Figures they are showing two of the Czech Republic games on Classic, and I think they're one of the more exciting teams to watch. Does anyone know if the games broadcast live on Classic will be re-broadcast later in the day in HD on ESPN/2? I can wait a few hours...

No, those won't be in HD. The headline in the press release says so, but if you read it--"Euro 2008 matches will be available in high definition on ESPN HD, ABC HD and ESPN2 HD"--Classic is not mentioned.

5 out of 31 matches not in HD--yeah, I personally will be a bit disappointed that I won't be able to watch Netherlands-Romania in HD, but then I remember I had to pay $150 to get all of the games in 2004 from Setanta with some rather spotty technical service, so I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

In 2004 I was lucky to see only the games on Fox Sports World back then because I had cable in 2004 and they didnt have Setanta Sports and I was not going to a bar to watch it. I also have no HD as well but I am just happy to see each match live and watch the between match shows. Plus its gonna be ESPN International so we will not have the likes of any of the ESPN USA guys.

ESPN finally does something right. I am so psyched that ESPN is showing ALL the games LIVE. When I first heard ESPN got the right to Euro 2008, I thought they wouldn't show every game or at least not every game live, but I was wrong thankfully.

Between Euro '08 and the USA games against England, Spain, and Argentina, this is going to be a great summer of soccer that i'm really looking forward to.

You are confusing people by wording your sentence incorrectly.

    You should have said:

( because the 5 games on ESPN Classic will not be in HD. )

Yeah, it was mentioned on the last page. Notice though that each broadcast is only 1 hour long, so edited down (like most stuff on Classic, I suppose).

Yes, as opposed to Setanta who never did anything right at Euro 2004--see all their screw-ups, as documented on these boards (wrong screen size for the first half of France-England; last 2 penalty kicks cut off for England vs. Portugal for cable subscribers, not to mention the $200--or whatever it was--price tag for the whole tournament).

This ESPN deal is fantastic. I'm buying my first HDTV just for the tournament...

And here's hoping ESPN never let the crooks at Setanta get their hands on another major international soccer competition...

Bummer about the 1 hr broadcast...it's still a nice gesture on the part of the ESPN family.

I guess I should have at least checked the last page. :)

Have you watched ESPN's coverage of the champions league? Any time beforehand is used for commercial breaks and any time not used for commercial breaks, is used to try to trick people into sitting through commercial breaks.

BUT, at least they haven't started taking commercial breaks during the match, yet.
