I did a search to see if Tijuana has come up in any threads and they were all pretty old, so hopefully this is ok to start. I have heard for some time the rumors about a Mexican 1st division team in Tijuana and now with the Mexico U-23 game today, and the stadium construction/expansion well underway it seems that there will be a decent facility now in the city for a future team to play in. So it's seems to me like it's becoming a more realistic possibility. Here in San Diego we got an newspaper article about today's game and Tijuana's chances for getting a team. I am very interested and curious because I live nearby and would love to have a 'local' team to be a fan of since MLS will probably never happen in San Diego. I don't know that much about the Mexican league. So here are some questions, that I hope you will have some insights to: 1 - So I want to know, if there is substance to the rumors or it's huffed-up big talkin' from the Caliente people. 2 - Would they have to be promoted or can they do one of those franchise switch-a-roos that seem to happen every so often in Mexico, or would the league expand back to 20? Because the article says they aren't at the top of Primera A right now. 3 - would the team be well-supported locally -or- are the Tijuanans who like soccer already ingrained as fans of the most popular clubs (Chivas, America, Pumas, Cruz AzuL)?----would the tickets sales primarily go to people who live in the TJ/SD region who are coming to root for the opposing team (like is the case when the Steelers or Packers come to play the San Diego Chargers). 4 - what are the typical prices for game tickets in the Mexican league (will they be inflated prices in Tijuana since they are so close to San Diego?) I eagerly await your answers
Mark Zeigler always has great articles on Mexican soccer, seems to know his stuff, thanks for the link. 1. Yes the Xolo's are a reality, and are fighting for a spot in the Mexican first division, it's just not that easy though to get promoted. 2. Yes they have to get promoted, they arent going to be buying a team in first anytime soon and the league isn't going back to 20 teams anytime soon either, so fighting for promotion on the field is their only option for now. 3. Tijuana is soccer starved and most all Tijuanenses have probably never even seen Chivas or America play, so for the most part these seem to be folks that are soccer starved, but with a remaining open heart ready to be taken by the Xolo's . Tickets are most likely sold to the general public so you can get your hands on them without any problems because you happen to be living across the border, they want any fans from anywhere and San Diegans are almost considered locals anyway. 4. Ticket prices shouldn't be too far out of your reach considering you live in Chula Vista and buying tickets from a club in TJ, even if they are inflated they shouldn't be over $20 to $30 bucks per ticket. Remember that there fan base will be buying tickets in pesos.

Los Xolos los quiere la raza de Tijuana. Tengo unos estiquers yo, pero no se los a puesto a mi auto todavia.
Honestly this seems like it's going to be a hell of a club. I can't wait to go and check them out. New stadium, untapped fans that won't have to lose fans to chivas or america, (like necaxa did when they moved to aguas finding a lot of people already in love with america or chivas). This is great news. they should really just leave the name as Xolos, pronouncing and typing the whole name gives me a headache.
My genuine wish for this club is that the stadium actually end up looking the one's in the sketches and that they market themselves across the border as well.
Why's that? Also i thought i saw a picture once with some Xolo players wearing some wierd dark purple shirts? I kind of liked them. Team colors are red arent they?
subs! hopefully they change their name though, nacional tijuana was sick! i havent seen any games but i support , imma try and go sometime
it's Hank Rhon's Favorite Dog. And Since He's The Owner Of The Team He Named It That.. Yea Nacional Tijuana And The Original Club Tijuana That Played In 02 Was Sick.. you guys ever wanna go message me... i go every game..
Inter de Tijuana would be the most appropriate name because of the region and the city where they play.
True, but i can already see people saying Inter de Tijuana is just copying Inter Milan and blah blah. Take for example real salt lake, first thing that comes to mind is Real Madrid wannabes.
I'm a Chiva 100% but i support los Xolos cuz their local Tijuas has a good team and it would be great to see them in Primera Division later on in the future and having Chivas come to Tijuana
Actually a couple years ago..i don't remember the exact season i believe it was 2000-2001 we were Inter de Tijuana.. But The Team Got Moved So With it went everything
Exactly how i am, i'm 100% Chiva, but being from southern cal (San Diego) i have a soft spot for any sport teams coming out of Tijuana, thus Xolo's can count on my support (except if they play Chivas). Plus it's a great town. Sure it has it's load of bullshit, but all in all i'm never bored there.
