It seems like just yesterday when the infamous and hilarious Algarve 2007 prepared the world for a fat, sluggish Team Germany to show up to the World Cup. So, ladies and gentlemen, place your bets, place your bets. Will Germany finish in 8th place again this year? How's this for a plausible scenario: Silvia Neid takes substitutes Rottenberg in for Angerer for the Sweden game, with the excuse that Rottenberg has never lost to Sweden before. Sweden will then beat Germany to a bloody pulp, showing Germany for the farce that they are. Prinz will then go on a media rampage that will make last year's look tame (see last year's thread if interested). Let the games begin!

Blondie (Sylvia Neid) will actually play both Rottenberg and Angerer since we are cursed by having the two best goal keepers in the world and Blondie sees the Algarve Cup as a training ground to test young inexperienced players against second rate teams such as the USA, etc.

Wow! I was just shooting my mouth off, you know, making stuff up, didn't even check the starting line-up before making my prognostication... and yet... it came true. Germany 0, Denmark 1. It looks even better this way: Denmark 1, Germany 0. Last year I suggested that Germany, placing eighth out of eight, should have been in the "special" group this year, with Portugal and Ireland. I'll bet they're sorry now that they skipped the chance to play in group C and maybe win a game or two. Denmark 1, Germany 0. Last year, key German players were fat and out of shape (according to Queen BeePee herself). This year, perhaps some key Germans have been partying a little too hard, trying to keep up with their pals from Djurgården. Maybe Hingst will eventually figure out time zones, and alarm clocks, and difficult concepts like that. Hey, kickinthehead, they say your girl "Natze" Angerer was out skinny-dipping 'til dawn... is that why she didn't start?

Who on Team Germany bites the most, would you say? Meanwhile, in the midst of all this gratifying negativity, let us not forget that Sweden beat Finland 3-1 today. Heja Sverige!
Conny is known as a scratcher, I think my beloved BeePee has been a stubborn biter since the tender age of 2 (she was already 5'4"" by then). This quote must raise suspicions in even the most naive of my loyal readers, wouldn't you say?
It would be great if Sweden would actually go ahead and ... beat Germany for once. That would be terrific. I mean, at least in the f-ing Algarve FFS. We beat the USWNT at Algarve a few years ago, so it's obvious that giant-slaying is not impossible when nothing really is at stake such as at a friendlies tourney like this one.
I wonder why Germany has always problem in Algrave cups. I think because Germany is a big-tournament team. Our strange is our mentality and motivation at big games, where other teams have fear of early elimination. Algrave Cup simply is not taken that seriously. Germany wants to win it, but it simply doesn't produce the will. So long that Germany wins the EU 2009 and WC 2011, I personally don't care about their performance in Algarve Cup. By the way where is Brazil?
I'm with you on this one. I just want Team Sweden to beat Team Germany, I don't even care if it's in arm wrestling (which Sweden would probably lose, since arm wrestling is an ugly game of brute force) or ping-pong (which Sweden would probably win, since ping-pong is a beautiful game of finesse and skill). And yes, of course we would all rather see our teams win the WWC or Euros. But I still don't think Germany is going to lose anything on purpose, even if it is more-or-less friendly, and they were pretty pissed off after doing so badly last year...
I don't say Germany lose on purpose. I have studied their MNT too. Germany with a long term tournement concentration is the best. Germany without mental concentration is just a good team. This shows that their improvising abilities are inferior to their systematic and strategical preperations. On the other hand, a team like Brazil is an improvising team. Tell them, right tomorrow is a tournement, and they will give their best. However if you insist on so much strategic planing, they forget even their normal playing. This is why they prefer to be happy und dance instead to concentrate before a an important match. I think this puts Germany on favor in big projects.
Brazil never plays in the Algarve Cup - seems to be an European affair (with the exception of the US). Looks like this year our girls are going to come in at least 7th (it's 3:0 Germany:Finland right now). GERMANY 2011!! Hat trick!!

Well, that's a good point, but mentioning Heidi Andersson brings up the specter of her hubby Björn Ferry, which only reminds us that Germany kind of kicked Sweden's (and everyone else's) ass all over the place in this year's biathlon world cup. ANY-hoo. Beat Germany. Must beat Germany. Never mind about that little Denmark thing that happened today. Must beat Germany!!
What is the Sweden-Denmark result? I hope Sweden has beat Denmark, otherwise getting to the pole position in the last game would be out of Germany's hand.
