Who has more potential to being the next big world class star? Both are around the same age playing for major clubs. Which has looked to have the greater amount of potential for stardom?
When i voted, i was expecting to see 100% towards Pato and thats what i got. He is the better talent and has shown that in his debut for Milan when he, Ronaldo and Kaka tore Napoli to shreads. He has the ability to start alongside Kaka for every possible game this season...and due to Seedorf's versatility, he can play further back on the left of a midfield 3 (Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso) which will allow Pato and Kaka to play behind the out-and-out striker (Ronaldo, Inzaghi, Gilardino). Pato has shown heaps in youth World Cups/Championships and in Brasilian Serie A and will show why Milan paid 18million for him and gave him the #7.
It's funny because I've actually seen Bojan play more games than Pato. But after seeing both play I feel they have similar technical ability. But the difference is Pato is bigger and a better athlete. Bojan's career looks like it it might mirror Saviola's and Owen's. Whereas, Pato has the potential to be a Van Basten or Ronaldo.
Exactly...him and Kaka could really create havoc amongst defences for years. And with Pirlo, Seedorf and Gattuso behind them, they are in the perfect system to show their talents
Pato could turn out to be great, but to say that he has shown “heaps” so far and that he is a better talent than Krikic is plain wrong. Pato was outclassed in the World Youth Cup by Altidore and Freddy Adu as Brasil struggled and he only played a handful of professional matches in his life before this past weekend. Pato displayed that he has a soft touch in the goal he scored yesterday, but lets not get carried away from one match. If anything Krikic has shown us more so far.
I think what you meant was "I have seen Bojan play more than Pato". Pato has actually played more professional matches than Bojan. You just didn't see them.
I'm just waiting for someone to say that the matches played in South America shouldn't count, as it's obvious that Napoli's defenders got an extra leg compared to those of Palmeiras.
Correct. Although I think I speak for the majority (it's no coincidence that this thread started mere hours after Pato's first match at a "big" club).
Both Pato and Krkić still have a lot to prove at this level and I don't think any comparison or even individual rating is remotely fair at this stage. I'll be waiting until at least the summer before thinking of doing so. I won't give you the argument you want in regard to South American versus European football because it has all been said before and I'd rather not see you whine. Although I would also like to add that Napoli's defensive ability is fairly shocking.
Napoli's defense wasn't great, but considering Milan was playing at home, Milan fielded an unfamiliar formation (they haven't fielded two strikers in a year), and they were facing two former World Player of the Years... Napoli did very well. As far as Pato vs Bojan. Bojan is a special talent, but like Spartak said he isn't as physically gifted as Pato. Pato is quick. Very quick. Quicker than Kaka, although his top speed isn't as high. Furthermore anyone skeptical about his talent rest assured he is the real deal and will be one of the greatest players in the World in 2010. He is from Internacional, the heated rivals of Gremio, where Ronaldinho Gaucho played. If scouts from that area say he is the most talented since Ronaldinho you listen to them.
I haven't seen nearly as much of Bojan as I have Pato but I'll say this; it's nice to see the enthusiasm Pato had on the pitch against Napoli. Having watched Pato while in Brazil, he clearly is a very talented kid. I agree with Teso in that I'll wait a bit longer to really rate either as I think it's bullshit to rate all these youngsters so quickly. It seems as if we do nothing but set them up for failure if they don't live up to the hype down the road.
I definitely think Pato will be a bigger star with international recognition ala Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Kaka. But skill? I think we need to see more matches for both players before we can start to determine which one is better.
Are you saying Bojan won't be an international star? he was formed in Barca and is going to be their star in a couple years. He will be what Ronaldinho used to be 2 years ago.
That's a pretty bold statement. People need to remember all the players that have been hyped up to be the next great world superstar and never reached that potential. Does anyone remember when Saviola was at River? He was hyped more than Pato and Bojan. But when the kid turned 16 he stopped growing. And he really never improved upon his ability as a teenager. So you really don't know if Bojan or Pato will improve enough to be in the class of a Ronaldinho, Kaká, or Messi. Time will tell.
The difference is that Bojan is already playing in Europe and playing in one of the biggest teams in the world and that is a difference.
That's irrelevant. Gonzalo Higuain is playing for Real Madrid and no one is saying he's going to be the next anyone and rightfully so. These players are still young you don't know how they will develop.
I think he just did in the sense that neither have accomplished anything yet. So Bojan has had some nice run-outs but does that assure future greatness?
Pato is incredibly quick. I wasn't too sure about him a year ago when everyone was raving about him, but I think Milan have made an excellent signing in him.
In the only sense I compared them is that they both play in big clubs in Europe. Just because they play in a big club in Europe doesn't mean they're going to be the next big name player, in Bojan's case the next Ronaldinho for Barca. It's extremely early to make that kind of statement since you really don't know how he will develop.
Real Madrid paid millions of dollars for that player (one of the most overrated in Argentina at that time). Why? Because of a goal against Boca that he flicked in with his heel.
Well, I've seen Pato play in many games, and I say without a doubt that it's a matter of time before he's elected FIFA Player of the Year, and maybe not more than 2 or 3 years...... I've seen Bojan play 2 times, both coming from the bench, and he has impressed me too, but it's just too little for me to say anything about him........... But I'll say this for all of you who think he's better than Pato: if he really is, all Barcelona fans can celebrate having a future 3 or 4 times Player of the Year winner in their squad.......
