This isn't as crazy as you might think. The Crew not that happy with their stadium situation. I for one would love to see this because, well , being from Michigan I hope for every sports team in Columbus to fail.
I do too, and I live in Ohio. Believe me I was rolling in the aisle this year with the Florida v. Blackeyes (Why Blackeyes? Because the Gators dotted BOTH of OSU eyes.) If the Crew were to move I think it would be Cleveland (there has been mentioned a stadium being built outside of Cleveland in Macedonia). But I think ALOT would have to happen for them to move out of Columbus. Right now they are looking at building a training facility around Columbus and this may be the future location of a new stadium as well. The problem is that the Crew have a perfectly good stadium...it's just that its in the middle of a Fairground/Expo/Pavilion...basically it's run by the govenment and any improvements to the facility have to go through the local gov to release money for the improvements, I believe. Right now all they want is paved parking by the stadium for a better atmosphere (especially when it rains).
I may be wrong but isn't High School sports divided into East v. West. You have to win the championship in your Eastern or Western bracket and then you face the champion of the other bracket for the state championship. I may be wrong but I remember Greater Johnstown High having to do that type of bracket for Ice Hockey. But this would be a another thing to add to the rivalry. Eastern PA soccer is king in the Commonwealth (Delco FC, Colleges, and history with Bethleham Steel FC) and the Riverhounds owners did mention that they wanted to develop Western PA soccer to top notch level.
If Philly can get the same people who go to Eagles games come to a soccer match then I think they would be EVERYONES rivals. People would just hate to go to Philly with their team. I think we would see the first true American hooligan type firms in Philly
Yes I did. I realise that the article is mostly about building the new training facility, but there is a problem with the parking and little things like that can get bigger and bigger as time goes on.
I hope not hooligan firms, but it will certainly be a stadium where we will need a visiting fans section.
I DO hope that we can keep the hooligan element out of the supporters sections but there are always a few who just go out looking for a fight. I think it happens in all Supporter Groups. As far as Supporters groups goes I would think the Philly would be up there with Red Patch Boys/U Sector, Barra Brava, Section 8. You guys already have Sons of Ben so all you need....is a team. Some good folk in the Steel City are starting up a group and I am more than willing to pitch in. I just hope we get the backing of the club on certain issues (Tifo that sort of thing).
I hope not, we tend to boo when we are not getting a full effort from our players. As long as the players show with their hustle that they care as much as we do, they are fine.

OK here's the story...Christmas time, the Eagles sucked, the grounds crew didn't even clear the snow and on fan appreciation day, he drove around on the infield track throwing out mini-footballs...when he got to one end with none left to throw, the crowd (which had been throwing the balls back at him) creatively substituted snow balls for plastic mini footballs. The other version, was a skinny, drunk off of his ass Santa staggering around. In both cases, Per Noel or not, he had it coming.
Picking a location for a soccer complex in Pittsburgh is difficult. If it's perceived as minor league, too many of the soccer community will judge it as too hard to get to. Pittsburgh is divided by hills - mainly north from south. Bethel Park, the Riverhounds' first home, was too difficult to get to from the north (Fox Chapel and others). Falconi Field was even worse, in Washington, which is closer to West Virginia than Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh Mills isn't that far north, but far enough from the south hills, where Beadling club is big. Would people from Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Peters, etc. go to the Mills? Who knows. The site is a very delicate selection process for a minor league club. Also, a soccer complex has been a pipe dream since I was in high school over 20 years ago. Is this just another one? Pittsburgh is far far far far away from MLS. Many more cities have much more of a soccer community and commitment to the sport or a possible franchise than Pittsburgh does. Pittsburgh is just trying to get off the ground in USL. Even if this stadium does get going in the next few years, the team would need strong fan backing (which hasn't happened since the days of the Pittsburgh Spirit, which outdrew the Penguins until Mario Lemieux came along), and then a solid ownership group if it ever were to enter MLS.
Plus the real Santa guy they'd hired didn't show up, so they picked some skinny drunk out of the stands wearing possibly the worst Santa suit ever.
My only post writing about PIT... Call the team "Steel City FC" The Steelers and team up with the Rooneys for cross promotion - same colors, etc... That is enough writing about Pit.. as an earlier poster said and I'll use in Michael Moore fashion - Pittsburgh Steelers: "it blows."
I lived in Pittsburgh for a while (Mt. Lebanon, actually), and have to say going anywhere further north or east of downtown was a pain. Bethel Park's biggest problem is lack of interstate access. To me, a good spot would be Robinson, Carnegie, etc. Once the southern beltway is finished (who knows when), there's a direct link to the area from the Monroeville area. Land is cheap, and it's a developing area of the city. Plus, easier to get to from the northern exurbs (Mercer, Lawrence, Butler counties), as well as the West Virginia panhandle and eastern Ohio that has strong steel history that associates with Pittsburgh. As for the colors, the yellow and gold were not just randomly picked by the Steelers or Pirates, they're the official colors of the city, and hence, used by the teams in the city. Sykotyk

Gentlemen....I believe we need to tip our caps to Rampart66 for providing us with this glorious kit. Let us give thanks. Too bad we look like the Crew....well they can change their colors. I'm thinking orange and reflective silver and they can change their name to the Road Crew. Their anthem can be Roll Out The (Orange) Barrells. If you could make the collars on the Pittsburgh kit blue that would be awesome. Nice work.
