You can change your missus, change your hairstyle even change your country of residence and no-one bats and eyelid. But has any ever contemplated changing their football team? (Or actually done it)?

For my confession, read my latest blog, if you're feeling a bit generous please leave a comment, perhaps even subscribe.

    Regards, P

Anyone that changes their team is a traitor and coward. Pick a team and stick with it for the rest of your life!!

I had a mate once who used to support Arsenal. And then, for no reason at all, changed to Newcastle United at the start of the 96/97 season. He got right on his high horse when Keegans Newcastle were 12 points clear in January of that season, and then looked a right muppet when they choked and gave it to Man Utd and a silver platter.... :D

    How I chuckled...

    Ahh, good times.

"I'd luv it, I'd really luv it"

They don't make em like Keegan anymore

PS Your mate could possibly have the worst timing ever.

He was a fake. They signed Shearer, they had Ferdinand, Ginola, Rob Lee, Phillipe Albert etc. They were a good side really. They were worth supporting, but it was so obviously a glory hunting tactic and that made it even funnier when they fell flat on their face.

I stuck to the team I always had, and watched the silverware roll in... :D

The only thing worse than someone changing their football team is someone starting threads as an excuse to plug their blog.

I don't think any *true* soccer fan would ever seriously consider abandoning their club. Your team is your team, whether you're at the top of the EPL, or whether you're getting relegated to the Conference. I've supported Sheffield Wednesday since I was 6. I supported them when we were reaching cup finals and playing in Europe in the early 1990s; I supported them, perhaps even more passionately, when we were languishing in the middle of League 1 and the club needed us the most.

But that's not to say you can't *add* clubs to the list. Wednesday will always be my #1 club, but I've picked up an affinity for West Ham, Ipswich and Walsall by going to games with friend who were supporters of those teams. I live in Los Angeles now, so I picked up Los Angeles Galaxy almost by default, and I go to as many of their games as I can. And I'm also involved with a US fourth division team called the San Fernando Valley Quakes, who I cheer on from the stands.

So, no, I don't think you can ever *change* your team. I'll always be an Owl...

It's not uncommon for fans to get into their local team if they supported a "big club" as a kid. Some stay loyal, to the extent of pretty much hating their local team, but loads just grow out of supporting a team they have no real connection with.
