so garber's press conference starts at 1:30 ... if, and it's a big IF, he says what everyone here hopes he'll say, plan on meeting at mcgillin's promptly at 3 PM ... leave work 'sick', cut classes, whatever ...
when they announced that Salt Lake City was getting their expansion team, they held the press conference there. I don't recall if they did the same thing in toronto, but if they did wouldn't it stand to reason that they would hold this conference in Philly if they were announcing an expansion team here? unless garber wants to keep people guessing, but I doubt if he's that cunning. his use of a deliberately vague term like "competition initiative" gives one reason to think that expansion is possible, but it could also mean something like rule changes, acquiring USL as an official minor/developmental league, or any number of other things. I'm jus' sayin', is all...
I'm hopeful that we are one of the several announcements in "make several announcements, including some new competition initiatives". I have to be positive in my job
maybe some info will leak before Monday. That's the only thing that could save my sanity at this point.
At the same time, look how much we're salivating over something that hasn't even mentioned expansion.
They wouldn't put "expansion" in the title. It's a week away, they need to keep it vague. Just because it doesn't say anything about expansion doesn't mean that it's not. My God, I'm thinking optimistically, someone punch me in the chest, please.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up about this one. I mean.... Nah, it can't be. They'd hold the press conference in Philadelphia if this were the case. Besides, I don't think they'd just put "Competitive Initiatives" if they meant expansion team. I mean, "Competitive Initiatives" means rule changes or monetary incentives being added to the game, not another team. Don't get my hopes up. I couldn't take it.
