I have to answer these comments from Aaron Susi. This has been a pet peeve of mine before, but I don't understand why a team is supposed to stop trying when they get a big lead and I don't understand why a player would complain about the other team running up the score.

Aaron, don't you have any pride? Are you actually complaining that the Blast beat you guys too bad?

(mock girlie voice) "Oh the Blast won't stop scoring on us. It's not fair. We can't stop them and I don't like it."

Why couldn't you stop them from scoring in the end?
Why didn't you put your goalie back in?

It is worse in the MISL since you get extra points for scoring on an empty net. The scores get out of hand real fast.

But dude. Take it like a man. Play 60 minutes. Keep your head up and just play.

Of course you're right NLS2004--your playing should do all of the talking. I'm not sure if you were able to see or hear the game, but to put a little perspective on it he was the sixth attacker who was running after those three-point shots at the end. I'm sure that that is a pretty humiliating experience, and that we are just seeing a player lose composure out of frustration. It's too bad this happened. The rest of the game was pretty friendly by MISL standards. I think there were only three or four blue cards.

Syd, why the hell do you single out and pick on Aaron Susi? I agree that a team isn't supposed to stop trying until the clock runs out, but Susi's attitude on this is one that runs through the league and the sport. There are players on every team that feel that when you have the game won, you don't show up the other team.

I actually agree with you that you shouldn't stop playing the game until it's over, but I think it's grossly unfair to single out a guy like Susi, who is, in my opinion, one of the nicest guys in this league. As for you asking "why don't you put your goalie back in", you know that's not Susi's call. It's up to his coach.

You asked if he had pride. I think that's evident. If he didn't, he would simply have shrugged his shoulders and walked off the pitch. So he lost his temper and got mad. At least he has passion for the game, cares about winning, shows up every night and gives his hundred percent.

Easy there, Jasper. Syd sometimes rides a high horse onto this forum and he can't hear you way up there where he sits.

Not that any Blast players would ever get all pissy if the situation was reversed. Like hell.

Blast were winning 17-10 in the 4th quarter in Chicago and lost 21-19. If they want to score as much as they can, I don't blame them. Hell I would have added a couple more goals just to be safe, no matter if it was 10 seconds or 10 minutes.

Now, now, don't take this as a Baltimore bias.

And for all I know Susi never even made the comment. I'm just reacting to one player's reported comment in a newspaper.

I have never liked this attitude from any players.

I can think of a preseason game between the WISL Steamers and Hotshots where Ato Leone was involved. I think he might have stopped the ball on the goal line and waited until the Steamers players got back and then he poked it in. And the Steamers started a fight because of that. It could easily have been the Steamers scoring and Leone starting the fight. I can't remember.

But the MPSers like to pretend that you're never out of the game because even if you're 4-5 goals down you're just "three BOMBS away from tying the game" and then the players get all bent out of shape when you score empty net goals.

I will never understand how you can leave your goal open and expect the other team to courteously not score on you. It's absurd.

The only way I could see Susi (or anyone) having a decent argument is if a Blast player went in for a hard tackle with 10 seconds left or if one of the Blast players shot the ball as hard as he could at the 6th attacked with 5 seconds left.

I've been in game where my team was down 10 goals. You just keep playing and try to make something happen and try to make the score respectable. You can never be mad at the other team for them being better than you. That's YOUR fault.

And at the end of the day Susi probably isn't a bad guy and I probably took his comment too literally when he was only expressing frustration after a loss.

    NSL,
I was actually at the game you are talking about between STL and Houston. A friend of mine played for Houston at the time. Leone actually stopped the ball on the goal line and then got on all 4 to head it in. It was very classless and was actually quite lucky he was beat to a pulp. The STL players tried going after him on the kickoff and he was smart enough to let his teammates help him off the field. I think the rule of thumb in the course of the play is if the team has the 6th attacker in and they are trying to score then they should expect the other team to try and score. This doesn't mean players don't still get upset when they get scored on. Regardless of the score most players hate to get scored on.

Ato Leone was a classless hack. I'm pretty sure it was also him who deliberately tried to break Mark Moser's leg by sliding into it feet first. Anyone who remembers Moser will also remember he wasn't the right guy to try that with. I never saw anyone come bouncing up off the turf fist first like that, but I think he let Leone know he wasn't happy about it.

Hey Ato Leone is a former NSL All-Star! ;-)

I didn't know he got down on all fours and headed the ball in. THAT is not cool.

THAT is trying to show another team up.

Just trying to score, however, as JustKickin mentioned, is not.

As a Cougar fan it is good to see a player get upset. Susi was hussling his *ss off as the 6th attacker. He made a great hussling save or Baltimore would have had 3 more points. The game was closer than the score. Keep up the passion Susi the Cougars need it. Hopefully other players can rally around a fired up teammate.

I've met Susi out and about and he really is a good guy. I actually think the league would benefit from more Aaron Susi's.
