Bolton Wanderers were formed in 1874 as Christ Church FC and became Bolton Wanderers in 1877. They were one of the founding members of the Football League.

The club has four FA Cups to it's name: 1923 (The White Horse Final), 1926, 1929 and 1958.

The club also has the dubious honour of being the team that has had the most seasons in the top flight without winning the league. The club's highest ever finish was third.
