Snowballs stop game!

With the snow bringing the EPL, and indeed the UK, virtually to a halt (I know it’s nothing compared to what you guys across the Atlantic get, but we’re just not equipped to deal with snow), here’s a fun story from the continent.

Over the weekend, a game was stopped for a few minutes as the players were removed from the field in response to home fans throwing missiles at visiting players.
>>
You’d be forgiven for thinking that this game was yet another example of hooliganism from some of the crazier sets of supporters around Europe and that the fans were throwing the usual missiles; bottles, coins, lighters and phones at the players.
>>
However, this was a game from the Jupiler Pro League between Club Brugge (Bruges) and Anderlecht, so the fans in question were the ever-amiable Belgians. So what was their missile of choice? Snowballs (or as they’d say in Belgium; boules de neige or my new favourite word, sneeuwballen!)
>>
It started when midfielder Mbark Boussoufa was pelted when he went to take a corner, followed shortly by Jonathan Legear. This prompted the referee to take both teams from the field for seven minutes to let things calm down.

>>
Legear laughed the incident off after the game by saying “I like a snowball fight”. “They did not mean any harm, but I understand the referee made the right decision in that moment”
>>
Anderlecht ended up getting the last laugh with second half goals from new Belgian wunderkind Romelu Lukaku and Bousouffa to secure a 0-2 win that took them to the top of the league.
>>
It didn’t end there. After the game the Anderlecht players (including Sacha Kljestan) went to celebrate in front of their fans, when Legear flipped the script by playfully threw some snowballs at the travelling supporters. This prompted an over-zealous steward to intervene and start shoving Legear (watching the video, it looks like a guy from Newcastle made it to this game!)
