Liverpool's summer shopping list!

Here in England we are now into silly season, where all kinds of transfer rumours are spread, about 1% of which are actually true. Liverpool are currently being linked with all kinds of players. Here’s who I’d like us to buy, and who I think we could realistically get.

Tuncay (Middlesborough): He is exactly what we need, a good option to link the midfield to Torres. He didn’t score that many himself last season but that was more due to Middlesborough being awful than anything else. Tuncay could do a good job from the start or off the bench, where we really struggled to have impact players last season. He has been one of the most underrated players in the league and would fit in well at Liverpool and probably wouldn’t cost that much.
>>
Alvaro Negredo (Almeria): This could be a strange transfer. Real Madrid want Xabi Alonso by all accounts. To make the deal more palatable to Liverpool they want to throw in Negredo. Now, Real sold Negredo to Almeria but have the option to buy him back. This means potentially, Real could buy him only to then send him to Liverpool. Imagine the paperwork on that! Negredo does have an excellent goal scoring record and the last striker we bought from Spain’s been quite good hasn’t he?

Steven Defour (Standard Liege): Gerrard and Torres only started 14 games together last season. When Gerrard was injured we had no viable alternative in our squad. Defour is the answer. When we played Standard last season Defour was excellent, he has tremendous vision, reads the game well and is a creative player, which is exactly what we need. Lots of big clubs will come in for him and I hope that Liverpool are one of them. He could replace Alonso if he is sold but would be a good addition anyway.
>>
Axel Witsel (Standard Liege): Defour’s team-mate is a marauding right winger who can also play of the left. Dirk Kuyt is not the answer for Liverpool on the right and with Jermaine Pennant going and Nabil el-Zhar struggling to make an impression, Witsel could be the kind of player Liverpool fans would love with his pace and skill.
>>
David Bentley (Spurs): He’s had a disastrous time at Spurs since Harry Redknapp became manager and looks likely to be sold. He would be the answer to our set-piece problems as he is a similar type of player to David Beckham in that he is a good passer and fantastic crosser. Liverpool wanted Aaron Lennon as part of the Robbie Keane sale but Spurs wanted to keep him so Bentley is a good alternative.
>>
Javi Martinez (Athletic Bilbao): Bilbao signed this guy for 6 million euros before he had played a first team game. He is another creative midfield player and again could be a possible replacement for Alonso. Bilbao always produce good players and I’m sure he’ll adapt quickly to England.

Defensively Liverpool are well stocked and should be even better if we can find someone stupid enough to buy Dossena (That meeting where he asked for a transfer must have been the quickest of that type in history!). I certainly don’t think we should blow a big part of our budget on Glen Johnson, even though he is a good player.

All we need is a young English (for the new Champions League rules) Centre-Back who we can develop and can come in for the odd game where he is needed. It is a shame we have sold Jack Hobbs as I thought he looked quite promising but hopefully Martin Kelly and Stephen Darby can make the jump up to the first team this coming season.

Who would you like to see arrive at the reds?
