Mexico Continues to Be All Hat and no Spurs

I wish Mexico could show with half, even a quarter of the heart that the concacaf compatriots have during this edition of the hex. In front of their raucous fans, El Salvador continued the out hustling, out muscling, of the "gigantes de concacaf" in their 2-1 win over the Mexicans.

La selecta out-played Mexico in every aspect of the game and kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the world cup, a great and deserved victory. Guanacos all over the world should be very proud of their team tonight.

As for Mexico, everything was supposed to be different now that their savior was, Javier Aguirre, was back in the fray. FMF can change the coaches after every game if they want, but the constant that has plagued Mexico during this current slide have been the players. Until they make the commitment and the sacrifice necessary to get the results they need, it'll be more of the same.

It was very apparent tonight that the players who had not seen much action had a hard time getting into the rhythm of the game. And that made it very easy for El Salvador's dribblers to get the penetrations they needed to put them in scoring position.

It's not all over for Mexico, but their margin of error is now microscopically thin. Who knows how things will turn out, but Mexico continues to play this way, the road to Africa will probably have to go through South America. And that's being optimistic.
