Mexico's lackadaisical performance thus far in the World Cup qualifying has most fans of the Tri at Defcon 3. Poor showings on the road and at home, coupled with the marked improvement made by teams in the region have put the Tri squarely on the hottest of seats. Of course that can all change tonight if Mexico manages to take the full 3 points at San Salvador tonight.
The players and coaches have been saying all the right things in the lead up to the game. Mexicans are the FIGJAM of concacaf, but leave it to everyone's favorite sound-byte artist, Nery Castillo, to offer his counter: "It's time for us show superiority on the pitch by winning, not talking about it." Nery will get his chance. He starts up front with soon to be ex yellow sub-mariner Guille Franco.
El Salvador's chances of qualifying will take a fatal blow with a loss tonight. Only winning 2 of 9 points at home in Concacaf is a pupusa I don't want to taste. And Mexico somehow prevails, El Salvador will have no choice to take a big bite.
