Virus Scare Empties Streets, Churches - Futbol Rolls On

The incredibly scary swine flu strain has closed schools in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and San Luis Potosi until May 6. Mexico City has turned into a virtual ghost town: the churches were empty this morning, and the streets are bare.

Futbol has not been canceled, but the games will be played behind in front of empty seats. That includes today's tilts in Mexico City: Chivas-Pumas and America-Tecos. Yesterday, Pachuca took care of Cruz Azul in an empty Estadio Hidalgo.

We can only hope that the measures taken will help contain virus. As a native Chilango, it's a little disconcerting. I still have a lot of friends and family in the DF. I hope they and everyone else emerge from this unscathed.
