While we're waiting for updates, let's look at week 31, the Baskin-Robbins week of MLS.
REVOLUTION v. WIZARDS
Ever wonder whether New England or Kansas City have better reserves? Tonight's your chance to find out! This game probably won't outdraw World Series ratings in Steve Ralston's house.
EARTHQUAKES v. MOUNTIES
The headline on MLSnet is "Yallop making changes for finale." Better Nate than lever, I guess.
CUSA v. HOUSTON
Neither Kinnear nor Preki will want to give away too much, in case the two teams meet in the Western Conference finale. (Which they won't, but don't tell them that.) How long did it take you to figure out that was supposed to be Sacha Kljestan on the FIFA 09 ad, by the way? Took me three days.
GALAXY v. BURN
As in, at the stake. That would be more fun to watch than a game against FC Dallas, wouldn't it?
CREW v. UNITED
Okay, I'm pretty sure this game will be meaningful to DC no matter what else happens. I don't think I'm insulting DC too much by saying a lot of this depends on whether Sigi would rather play these guys two more times in a row, or take on Curt Onalfo. I'm sure Juan Carlos Osorio is already sending flowers to Black and Gold Drive as we speak. Still, the Crew have nothing to play for, the Washington DC United have everything to play for, and while DC are banged up, they haven't been a stumbling bag of crap or anything. DC, 3-1.
Hm, pretty dull, meaningless games, by and large - oh.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUP FINALE; OR, THE KICK AT THE DICK
Now, see, this is the problem with fan rivalry trophies. Think either set of fans is going to be in the mood to hand off the Rocky Mountain Cup, and oh by the way a playoff spot, to those other pricks? Certain Rapids fans, by the way, have noticed that I tend to make my picks on Opposite Day, and have asked me to go with the Royals here. Sadly, I actually said several times that the Rapids would win this game, simply based on home and road records. The teams are at full strength, except for maybe Espindola, listed as questionable. I think RSL is slightly more talented, but they rarely take that with them outside Utah. And, while we get to this in coming days, I think the winner of this game has a great chance to go one game away from MLS Cup, maybe hosting the conference final if Houston faws down and go boom. This is the one unmissable classic game - and it's on HDNet, so you can't watch. KA-POW! Rapids, 2-1.
