Las Vegas group Poised to Buy Stake in Crew

Sports Business Journal has just moved a STARTLING STORY ABOUT A POSSIBLE NEW INVESTOR IN THE COLUMBUS CREW

Former MLS player and longtime Columbus object of hatred Paul Caligiuri confirms the group that California tech zillionaire Mark Noorzai assembled to place a team in Las Vegas is in the process of closing a deal with Hunt Sports group for a minority stake in the Crew.

HSG has no comment.

This of course raises some interesting questions that HSG will doubtless refuse to answer:

- Why would a group headed up by a guy in California whose admitted goal is a team in Las Vegas put millions of dollars into a team in Columbus Ohio? Was their mattress already stuffed too full?

- If you're planning on building a $500 million stadium and casino in Nevada, of what possible use would a minority stake in the Columbus Crew be to you?

- If they are successful in getting the league to award a team to Las Vegas, are they then going to sell the chunk of the Crew they just bought?

Absent some assurances from Hunt Sports, who will maintain majority ownership, this is just exactly the wrong news at exactly the wrong time for the Columbus Crew, team and fans alike.

Great timing, guys. Just perfect.
