MLS Power Rankings! Week 8

Bill's best friend Jack Warner sent me an e-mail about the CONCACAF Champions League schedule. As we suspected, MLS teams might face a teeny fixture congestion issue:

Fortunately, as of today, three out of our four representatives apparently intend to solve that problem by missing the MLS playoffs. I *heart* parity.

In that spirit, the Power Rankings! for week 8.

1. Chicago (13, +12)
2. Columbus (10, +8)
3. Toronto (7, +4)
4. FC Dallas (6, +2)
5. New England (1, -4)
6. Kansas City (4, -2)
7. Colorado (14, +7)
8. New York (2, -6)
9. San Jose (3, -6)
10. Chivas USA (9, -1)
11. Real Salt Lake (8, -3)
12. Los Angeles (12, --)
13. DC United (11, -2)
14. Houston (5, -9)

Another week, another number one. The Power Rankings! like the Fire a little better than the Crew - a road win in New England is more impressive than a road win in San Jose, after all. Right on their heels is Toronto, on the strength of their winning streak - big showdown with Columbus might possibly see the winner take over the #1 Power Ranking! next week. New England slips a few places after the draw, and Kansas City loses points even though they didn't play - that's Power Rankings! for you. Colorado comes out well despite the road loss in Robertson Stadium, and look to take the edge in the Rocky Mountain Cup. The Power Rankings! love affair with New York and San Jose seems to be over. Not a lot of change at the bottom, except for Houston, whose win struck the Power Rankings! as very, very unconvincing. YES, these are still random. I know they're scary-plausible, but honest to God I'm not rigging them. Look, would I put Houston in the bottom after a win? I'm sure next week Chicago and Columbus will be back in the teens.
